Tucked Braid for Long Hair

This braid is actually a regular French braid tucked up under itself and sewn in place with ribbon.  If you wonder why anyone would want to make their hair look shorter for a day, your hair is probably too short for this braid to be a worthwhile endeavor for you.

Directions:

  1. Braid a French Braid.
  1. Strand a large sewing needle with ribbon.
  2. Sew the ribbon once through the braid a couple links from the end of the braid.
  3. Thread the second side of the ribbon through the needle, so that both ends are pulled simultaneously.
  4. Put the needle under the braid, gently clearing a path with your finger, and stick the needle through the braid just behind the crown of the head.
  1. Gently pull the ribbon and work the tail of the braid up under the braid, against the scalp.
  2. Take one side of the ribbon out of the needle.
  3. Stitch the hair by putting the needle on one side of the braid, pushing under and GENTLY along the scalp.
DON'T POKE THE SCALP!  Take care to make each stitch approximately the same distance apart.
  4. Unthread the needle when you've worked your way to the base of the scalp, then rethread the needle with the other half of the ribbon.
  1. Repeat instruction 7, taking care that the ribbons cross over in the center of the braid and go beneath the braid at the same point on opposite sides.
  2. Unthread the needle when you get to the base of the scalp.

  1. Continue the cross-over pattern by wrapping the ribbons around the loose braid until you reach within 4 inches of the end of the braid, or are almost out of ribbon.
  2. Wrap the ribbon around the braid a couple times without moving downwards on the braid, and tie off the ribbon with the knot of your choice.
There you have it - a braid that looks only half as long as it actually is.
