Arwen - TTT

I won't have time to make proper instructions for the Arwen braid that never actually appears in the Two Towers, but was what you can see Arwen wearing in the documentaries.  I think this is what she wore for Helms' Deep, which she was edited out of.  However, here are some text-only instructions in case you want to wear it to the movie.

Directions:

  1. Braid a french perfect classic (meaning a classic that leaves the back half of the head unbraided). Leave it unpinned.
  2. Divide the back of the hair into 7 sections (realistically, if you just keep left half separated from the right half, you can just section them off when you're ready to braid the next section).
There will be three sections on the right, three on the left, and one on top that takes a roughly (kinda-sorta) triangle-shaped wedge from the top, using hair from both left and right.
  3. Braid each of the seven sections into simple 3-strands. Make sure the three-strands start as close to front half of the braid as possible. Fasten the end of each braid as you complete it.
  4. Overlap the classic braids, the middle strand braid running beneath both.
  5. Add each section braid in one at a time, creating a 9-strand. Fasten.

More specific (doing this randomly, don't remember which way it was in movie) instructions 4-5:

  1. Cross right classic over left classic, with middle section braid beneath both. Hold one in each hand.

  2. Pick up middle strand in left hand. (If, instead, you picked the middle up in your right hand, you would start by adding braids from the right, and start by going over then under, and change the rest of the instructions accordingly.)
Note that this isn't what I did in the example, and if you look closely, you can see my mistake.  Do what I say, not what I did when I couldn't see what I was doing.

  3. Take the highest left-hand braid and weave it under then over.

  4. Take the highest right-hand strand and weave it under then over.

  5. Take the middle left-hand strand and weave it over, under, over.

  6. Take the middle right-hand strand and weave it over, under, over

  7. Take the lowest left-hand strand and weave it under, over, under, over

  8. Take the lowest right-hand strand and weave it under, over, under, over

  9. Continue in pattern until you run out of one strand (one will end before the others) then band it off. Voila!
