Waiting for the Day
copyright 2004 Mary Bertke

I’m lonely and I’m looking and I’m far from home

First time I’ve been free since I’ve felt that I was grown

And I’m reaching out to find a friend

Someone to greet where pathways end

And I’m waiting for the day, waiting for the day,

Waiting for the day … to end

Well, your lips brushed my neck as we said goodbye

As I stood in your arms, I swear I could hear you sigh

I’m waiting for love to find me

So I turn and put the past behind me

And I’m waiting for the day, waiting for the day,

Waiting for the day … to end

Bridge:

I'm gonna make you shudder, gonna make you shake

Your heart and soul and mind I'll take

With poetry and songs I'll woo -

But only if you want me, too.

I want to hear your heart as it beats tonight

I want to feel your breath, taste your skin as I gently bite

Here’s the message that I want to send

I'm broken, but I think I’ll mend

And I’m waiting for the day, waiting for the day

Waiting for the day … to end.
