Challenge
copyright 1996 Mary Bertke
Refrain:
The dawn on the sea-spray is filling the air,
No bells and no drum-rolls, without a fanfare.
But a dream on the wing calls a challenge somewhere–
Come follow if you dare.
There's
so much to hinder the longing to roam:
the
soft gentle lover that holds you at home.
But
beyond the hearth's walls you hear the wind's song–
inviting
you, quick! Come along!
The
crash of the waves sends a clarion call,
Sweet
chiming in springtime, a bugle in fall.
The
world is a temptress to lure you away–
Her
dance is the sea's rock and sway!
Go
down to the seaside, we'll meet on the quay
The
challenge awaits to prove what we can be.
The
wind in our faces tells us of strange places
and
people we're soon like to see!
